If you really need a 'perfect' circle, simply add more geometry to support that shape... this is an example using connect and spherify then extrude in Max (the green circle is a circle spline to test the result):
Brilliant, that looks a lot better. My brain didn't want to accept that at first because those edges would be left connecting to nothing on the side there, but duh, they'd be quads, so it's okay.
or better these days, take the normal constraint and just move it along the normal, no need for a modifier for that anymore :) also you could try polyboosts flow connect which is integrated in 2010 in the graphitetools
Making the locket again from scratch for better topology, and this time I'm trying to simply extrude out of the perimeter for the hinge that connects each half. Still gives me unfortunate shading.
Thank you guys, you gave me inspiration :) I did bridge two edge sides and then I did connect on the same amount of subdivision and then I merged the vertices. That's all.
I think there is a misunderstanding. Edge Rings and connect only would work for the most basic box shapes. Im dealing with some more complex geometry, where the edge loops are not equal distance between them nor boxy. Right now I have to select each individual ring separately. Connect and hope the vertices are somewhat…
Hey guys I am trying to model pipes I was wondering as to how I could connect these two geometries without ruining their topology and having a clean mesh at the end. Thank you
don't laugh, I'm aware it's awful but it's the closest I've managed to what I am trying to achieve (two connected cylinders with a hard edge between them) and here is what it looks subdivided
Hmm... right side additional with wireframe.. left object with two level subdivision modifier.. right object with modifer applied.. and didn't even care about some tris.. ..of course this depends on the sizes of everthing.. and the wanted beveling at the cylinder edges.. Maybe another view.. ohh and the part in the middle…
Hmm, thanks for helping, seems to have worked okay, I changed it a little to get the shape I was after. But it doesn't seem like very good topology? and there are still deformations around the side connections...
