Thanks tynew, I was thinking I prolly needed to run that initial support edge coming fron the flat front inset down the vertical instead of running horizontal like I have mine now. I obviously just need more geo. Also, I try to stay all quad, but how important is it really if you have some tri's if we are just baking down…
Hi! I think that on making the pictures I answered myself but anyway let me post them here and confirm my idea... Image 1 is a typical case in wich you need more geometry, otherwise the tension between faces and the proximity generated when subdiving the mesh will cause lumps or straight edges... Image 2 has a decent…
thanks everyone, :) @throttlekitty but your example will show the seam if you bake it right ? when I try transfer normals it's not working, but it's fine with flat surface. I added more geometry and it's do the trick like the image below :) so this method only works if I really want a perfect bake. otherwise will show the…
Hey guys, I'm following a grenade tutorial and have come across a problem in a hard edge when subdividing: I'm using 3DS Max with the quad chamfer modifier in order to get the hard edge. If I decrease the value, the black pinch goes away but then I am left with a soft edge. This is the non-turbo-smoothed/non-chamfered…
@perna Hey there sir and sorry for late reply. I just want to say your methodologies/techniques are the most easiest and most efficient way of modeling shapes. Before I posted my problem I did try your method with the three edges but I was having difficulties getting the hard edge in the middle and I was desperate to…
Cross-posting from a thread I made on the p&r forum: Alright, I'm having a problem with one of the spots. Here's the original shape: WHen I turn turbosmooth on, it looks like this: Pretty obvious results, right?. Now, I want that slope to have less of a curve. I basically selected the edges and added some extra edges to…
Have another one. I want this rectangular object extruded out from a cylinder. All is fine with the low poly but when Subdivision is applied I get pinching in the corners. Also when I add support loops going across the rectangular object, I harden the edges of the cylinder in the High Poly(expected). I know I need more…
@Povilas You're on the right track. If the mesh needs to be watertight then matching the segment counts is a good starting point. It looks like the plastic has a grainy texture so this could help hide any minor smoothing errors. Sometimes close enough is good enough. Instead of trying to match every support loop to a…
Hi All, I'm trying to make this form which is part of a drill press. I'm having issues with one of the areas during smoothing after bevelling. The problem area is actually hidden in the final model, but if I know it's there then I won't be able to move on from it. Apologies for the number of images. The form before any…
When I connect the train to a path constraint, the pistons flew else where in 3D space. As you can apparently see, near the top left hand corner is where the piston is at in perspective view while the train is on the spline. I was basing the animation concept from this bonus chapter on "Rigging the Hudson" by Chris Harvey.…
