Hi @KungFuCactus The easiest way to get those Grid details on your Geometry would be just using Normal / Height Details in your texturing program. If for some reason this isn't sufficient enough I'd create a plane with the general outline of the diamond details and project / wrap this plane on top of your existing geometry…
Hello, I am newb, I'm trying to teach myself how to model. Starting REALLY Simple. When making an object, that is going to get rigged, what pattern of triangle should I use? Left is what I'm currently working on, Right is some MGS mooks I grabbed for reference on what a basic character mesh should look like. I noticed the…
@FrankPolygon Holy crap you're awesome! Really appreciate you taking the time to do these writeups. Been getting more into hard surface modelling and the previous writeups you've done in the thread have been really helpful!
@hututuzhang The distortion is caused by reducing the loops instead of carrying them across the shape. While it is generally possible to manually compensate for this type of shape distortion, some broader context is also required. Catmull-Clark subdivision smooths by averaging the existing vertices. This recursive…
Hi- I am trying to model this shape on the flashlight. I have made several different attempts, but they all failed. When I succeed getting the hard edges in, it disturbs the rounding of the outside of the cylinder. I can adjust the vetices manually to match the rounding a bit better, but I doubt, that is the right…
So long thread but I'm on page three and I wonder, are you guys in "pure" SubD mode? Or are you modeling with a proxy and using poly operations? I was gonna give the Leica model a go in SubD and imagine my shock when I CAN"T DO A DAMN THING to my initial cube! lul Well that's not true, I can use the move tool on a face.…
Quick question: Does every shape and form need to be completed and modeled before I turn on turbosmooth and add support loops, or do people add turbosmooth ASAP and work with it along side while adding support loops as they go? I find the latter way messes up my topology to a point where its hard to model certain features…
I would have modeled that as a single piece and then cut the plates out of it. You could do that or model a base that has the shape you want and retopo it so you have good topology and then extrude the plates out. Doing it like this, I don't know of any good way (in 3dsmax at least) to get those lined up perfectly so they…
Why do you try to model this object out of one box? Take a closer look at your reference. You will notice that this beamer is made out of different parts. It is easier to model those parts as seperate objects. Second point, take a look at your "lense hole" its really wonky. I guess it would be easier to start over again…
