@ Erik - yeah gamma on the map works, which is similar to the inverse exponential falloff thing I was talking about. Really i don't get the point of using meshlab or something like that, you can bake as much polygons in max as your ram can handle and how big must the files be to really make use of it? the only time i baked 30mio tris at once i think it was overkill and could be baked in parts to, most characters especially the epic… -

I can't really point you in the direction of a real good tutorial, but the best thing that helped me was just opening up some of the many packages in UT3 and looking how the guys at Epic did it. Good Art doesnt come first hand you know. Even the epic artists who have been in this business for ages take alot of time (probebly a week) to work on their art until they call it a DONE.
