the lighting looks straight there, so i assume my form to be correct, althought i could have made the champfers more soft, but than again, it would not really help identify the form if it looks like the picture

That sounds like a great idea, I'd be down to help make some if need be. Shit, I don't even think that'd be necessary because I see some of the same problems solved at minimum once a month.
Go back like 5 or 10 pages and read all of the responses by perna. Go back further if you still haven't found a solution. This is a common issue that has been posted about many times in this thread.
Ok less geo sounds like a really good approach i mean i can add more geo later if i need it while maintaining a stable poly flow without artifacts etc. Thanks :)

Guys, I could use some help finding out how something like this was made. I think it is done in Zbrush ? if so, are there any tutorials that can teach me the tools needed to do similar things ?
A quick note, Maya 2015's shrinkwrap by default will made your circle shape lopsided unless you change the projection to Vertex Normal in the options for shrinkwrap. Works like a charm though, thanks for sharing that ZacD!
