Bolts and hoses! everywhere in R&C has bolts and hoses jammed into it. Doesn't always make sense but it looks cool. Rounded surfaces. Curve surfaces. Look at www.creaturebox.com for style inspiration. Too many 90 and 45 degree angles at the moment.
Greenhouse could be taller imo, it looks too caricatured. Visibility wold probably be terrible. Also I can't help but think some kind of 45 degree light catcher sideskirt would look really good, kind of like this but smaller:
f-edge does a nice job of this in 3dsmax, and it's only $45. http://www.ddag.org For Maya... have you looked at the vector renderer? I bet there's also a toon-style shader for Maya that would give you lines along the hard edges...
Actually, I spoke too soon. That got the image to render at 1 pixel off, but it unfortunately didn't render out at 1600 x 45, it changed the resolution to 1291 x 37 for some odd reason. Trying again with a target camera...
You'll need to be back at the airport with a couple of hours to spare (especially to get through security and checkin at this time of year). Newark to New York is about 45 minutes by cab, so you'd probably only get a couple of hours in NYC itself..
I work 45+ hours at a non-art related job...and sometimes it's hard to motivate myself to do anything but be a slug when I get home....Polycount is a great motivater though..and the aspiration to do more than just freelance stuff
[ QUOTE ] At school in San Antonio with some of my fellow swimmers. I'm in the yellow Maryland hoodie and the Krispy Kreme hat. [/ QUOTE ] o_O Weird. I live like 45 minute away from UM. My sister goes there \o/
another method for small stuff is to use a tiling gradient bump map, rotated 45 degrees. Map that to either displacement or bump. The handy thing about doing it with a map is you dont have a heavy model in the viewport. you can do the displacement if need be at render time
Looking great! Maybe add some cloth to the end of one blade to balance the sides out a bit more? Asymmetry is a really cool idea but it just feels a bit too side heavy right now IMO. And maybe make the Banners end with a 45 degree edge.
Thanks, but thats using Motion Paths. I couldn't get that to work since it's a closed loop and the chain is a full connected oval. Unless Im missing something and not seeing a certain setting or something. I messed around with Motion Paths for a good 45 minutes yesterday, no luck.
