did you used a AO pass- because of those noisy grain propably because max rendered just 4bit instead of 8bit (256 levels) of grey (its just the way 3dsmax fails often at AO passes). Maybe smart-blur that layer , or render it in a larger size blur it then and resize it to the size you need. regarding the glass, a mixture of…
In theory you can feed HL any texture size (and polygon count if you know how to force it) but Valve gave HL a downsampler to maintain 3dfx compatibility, anything larger than 256x256 gets downsampled.
Fish - 30 fps isn't that bad for a console game. Most PS2 games run at 30fps, and it's usually hard to notice. I still agree though, that the art quality won't quite be to Unreal3 standards. Strangefate, I agree and disagree with you. I think the higher the target is, the more the textures will remain the same. For…
Er, hey, wait... Buck Rogers in the 25th Century beats Stargate SG-1 hands down. It was pure class! I used to watch it when it was on BBC2 a few years back. Haven't seen it since... shame. Hot 70's-style women in satin jumpsuits win over gravelly-voiced aliens any day!
Thanks for the advice, MoP. This is really my first serious foray into Zbrush and it seems like I find new and better ways of doing things all the time. I agree that it's rough, but that pic is early WIP, I just put it up to show what 15 minutes of goofing in Zbrush can get you. I also agree that custom alphas are the way…
I think there's a difference between "planning to use" and "not ruling out". The latter doesn't imply that it's the first option they'll take. M.A.D. requires a nuclear strike if Iran was to actually use nuclear weaponry, saying "we won't nuke them" would go against M.A.D.. Though I've read claims that a nuclear bunker…
A blank canvas is big... really big and its easy to screw up your scale. Since you really didn't say what program(s) you're using it makes it hard to be specific about setting up scale... I'm going to guess you are a student and you're learning Maya? Or are you going to build everything in UnrealEd? At work we use max for…
