Considering it's a Wii game, I have a feeling there's nothing dynamic going on. It's probably either baked GI, a global cubemap of the scene, or an ambient fill color.
i think you need to tick on "cast shadow" or its was with global illumination or smthn had that before.. cant exactly remember the fix but it wasnt difficult.

To connect a cat rig to a path you have to place a path constraint on a dummy and then via the globals dialog choose the dummy so it could be something like that.
