Hey guys. Here's a little breakdown of my approach to drafting scenes. There's a video of the process on the artstation page. Hope you learn something useful. Cheers! https://www.artstation.com/artwork/lwy9e?commentId=1537577
PSG Art tutorial by Arne Niklas Jansson is a good place to start. But the best instruction is simply to get a sketchpad and a pencil and start drawing. Draw the things around you, and draw as much as you can, every day.
I put together a quick walkthrough on Artstation of how I made a portrait of the Critical Role character, Jester. Hopefully it can provide some insight on digital painting workflows and how to pace the rendering stages. :)
I was looking for something else but found this little gem. It's the first volume (of 12 it seems) that will guide you through the LightWave - DDO pipeline. Looks promising. I purchased it, and can't wait to take a look. http://www.liberty3d.com/2014/10/ddo-for-lightwave-users-volume-1-is-just-released/
Additionally to the PDF's from Hamish Ames, here is some one and a half hour tutorial/workshop with him from "Beyond Extent" about hybrid trimsheets: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jzj1D7pyILI
