It is not uncommon to have seams on a curved surface he is right about that,but then again it is not uncommon to have seams on any object ( every object will ALWAYS have at least 1 seam) anyways he can definetely stitch some edges and make the seams appear on a place where they are much less visible, after he stitched them… -

Most realistic looking games, and many stylized games use photosource in some part of the texturing workflow. To what degree will vary heavily between projects depending on specific goals and even the specific artists. You should use photosourcing when it saves you time and doesn't give an inferior result. It's not really an extra import / export. I export from Max, unwrap and straighten in UVLayout, export back to Max and pack. All in all, the whole process is still faster than I ever was in Max alone. I like the vertex and grid snapping in Max. I use chugnuts (unwrap tools) in Max. I really like their displacement tools… -

trying to find the right number of uv shells is a balance. you have to balance the amount of texture space with the best coverage you can get. once you start packing everything into your uv space you will find you get a tighter pack and more coverage if you break some stuff into smaller tiles. how many varies, the… -

That's what I mean about learning the difference between the document and the tool. It's the only real hurdle to get over, and once you do zbrush should feel like a normal sculpting application.
