This happen to me just now and It sucked ass! The normal feature did work. How do I get smoothing information back? uhg, damn you Autodesk! Can I transfer one previously saved .obj's or max files smoothing groups to another?
Is this a game asset? 80K tris feels awfully heavy, if it is. If it is a high poly bake model for detail transfer to low poly, disregard. The tank itself looks great, but since I am not a tank expert, I will just wait for Dejawolf's critique application and updates :) Gera
Didn't they start off with a different publisher and end up with Zeni later? It could be that during that 'transfer' phase, some miscommunication happened, and the contract go lost between that. I mean lets face it, the game industry doesn't know how to keep things organized or efficient.
@ Sabor1996 - First it's not a swap. Metalness is just a mask. I would have to go in and transfer all of the spec for the metal into the diffuse/albedo. Second it would look largely the same, but I would have to fight some technical issues transitioning from the metals to the dirts and oxidation.
Yeah of course, I'm just saying in my point of view I wouldn't mind seeing a person trying out different things. Most things art-related skills are transferable. And yes Tor Frick has an awesome portfolio and skills, def a favorite of mine.
sounds like it might be worth playing with the options under geometry and normals for smoothing group and normal transfer in the OBJ importer dialog. if you choose to go with FBX make sure you end up with the correct scene scale and orientation though. there is the occasional surprise to be had with it...
People say "Max/Maya is crap" it may be crap for you but maybe not for others... it's just personal preference. Skill transfers regardless of what software you use, it's just a matter of getting used to the software. Just use what feels what's most comfortable to you.
Very impressive!! though I got a bit disappointed when I saw it was all high-poly stuff, if you learn how to transfer all that detail to real-time game meshes you'll be even more awesome :) For CG-stuff you're good to go ;)
Software that can generate photos from paintings, turn horses into zebras, perform style transfer, and more (from UC Berkeley) Thought it might be good for anyone wanting to get more value from there concept art. Download here - https://github.com/junyanz/CycleGAN
@johnnybevo your going to find that there are a lot of xsi users here, and users of all packages, but most talk will be about actually art and general modeling skills that are transferable between packages. good luck mate, also im a xsi and maya user with a dash of max on the side.
