Assuming you pulled the specular value from the slider, not the color picker, that is working as expected. The specular slider is in linear space, while specular textures load as sRGB(gamma space) by default. This is something I prefer about Maya over Max - at least in Maya you have a way of seeing EVERYTHING in the scene, even if it's some sort of hidden/default node that you should never edit. The default Max chamfer uses the adjacent edges as directional influence. If you chamfer with those extra edges there, it's going to split along both edges like that. You can either deal with it and just collapse the two edges it made with the new triangles, use obliviboy's custom script, or you can remove the two edges… -

Yep, Vig, "Copy Skin Weights" in Maya does a very similar job to skinwrap. It lets you transfer weights by closest point on surface, ray cast, closeset component or in UV space.
