Check out soulburn scripts it has a great object painter script that blows advanced painter out of the water. Or consider upgrading to max2011 they included a similar function

Hi, If you are using Max go grab Neil Blevins' SoulburnScripts - I use the Wire Maker script for most of my cabling. http://www.neilblevins.com/cg_tools/scripts/3dsmax/soulburnscripts.htm
If you are willing to pay $20 there's this http://www.creativecrash.com/maya/marketplace/scripts-plugins/texturing/c/ninja-uv--2 There was another free solution, but I can't remember the name of the script.
Well I use the migNormalTools script. For this example I select all the planar faces, harden the normal and then with the same faces selected I use the fillet outside option in the migNormalTools script.
Check out the "paste and select" script from Seneca: http://www.indigosm.com/modoscripts.htm but get the newer versions of his scripts from here http://forums.luxology.com/discussion/topic.aspx?id=52061
