Here's where mine landed. You can just put this in a startup script. Also, change the font to Consolas in the Preferences | MaxScript tab. listenerBackgroundColor = (color 80 80 80) macroRecorderBackgroundColor = (color 40 40 40) macroRecorderTextColor = (color 147 179 210) pythonPromptColor = (color 240 95 146)…
You don't need Maya to write script so why would you need license for it? Code you write is not owned by Autodesk. SDK is also free. If it was paid you would need license to write C++/C#/PythonAPI plugin, but they add it to every Maya so you don't need to buy it.

I re-posted the comment because I thought it absolutly funny when…

Hmm... I'm not sure - haven't tried it yet. Try: insetcmd.py here: ~/maya/<version>/scripts inset.pyc here: ../files/lib/python2.4/site-packages/maya/ If that doesn't work let me know.
Only watched some of Family guy, but I love it. For both the PC crowd abuse as Ror said, and the completely random, pythonesque humour ("It reminds me of the time I...."). You never know what to expect which I find very rare and welcome. Sucks if Fox do this.
