Also just Shift+G in general is a nice place to look around, it's the shortcut for "Select similar" @Justo as for sharp edges, I would say having Auto Smooth on is perfectly fine. Plus if you're using a bevel modifier and want to make use of the face weigthed normals option in there, then you will need to have Auto Smooth…
"It seems to me that the Bevel modifier not having a limit to hard edges function is a deliberate design choice. I mean when you think about it, in a shaded smooth mesh, hard edges and bevel are oftentimes the opposite result in terms of smoothing." Not at all. Using hard edges as a first pass to visually establish edges…
Also, in case you don't know, you can select an edge with a sharp angle in Blender, hit CTRL+G for Select Similar, choose face angles and select most if not all of the edges you'd want hard via the slider in the toolbar. I usually just set Autosmooth to 60 or 70 and mark the rest of the edges manually, never really been…
@eld you missed my point, in blender it just physically splits the edge, and doesn't allow the vertex normals to be edited at all on the edge. In maya you can soften or harden the edges which more or less gives the verts on it 1 or 2 normals, and those normals can be edited too. wasnt referring to smoothing groups at all,…
I just tested the snapping myself in 2.90 and it works already! You can finally snap to the intersection of two edges, even if those edges don't extend that far! I can die happy now. :D
