Oh yeah, I did that, what I mean is, if the UV island insn't facing the right way. I'll make sure next time to flip them , as if the UV is facing the wrong way, even without stacking pieces or anything, it'll render black. Bit annoying really.
It has a nice shape. I think it might be too many tris for the level of detail. Also, I know that usually one would put more tris in the face as it's one of the most important parts of a character, but in this case, the face is almost always covered by cloth and his hair, and I think that you have many polys there that…
the box modeling techique is yet to obvious,- you need to push vertices more,- delete some faces- merge some verts with others and try to use faces more as a surface control rather than letting it you control by 90° extrution - thats how it looks to me right now.
I think it's a camera trick. There's a polygon mesh inside that is always facing the camera. Think Super Mario 64. The trees were 2d billboards but because they were always facing the camera, you could never tell. Or maybe he combined 2 gifs in photoshop and simply masked out the windows.
A polygon usually has 2 or more faces while a triangle only has one. A quad has two faces, because it´s split up into two triangles. So naturally a 500 polygon model has 1000 tris when it´s all quads. :] @dale22x Looking cool man!
