2 crits: 1) The face on the belt seems too human/real and is most likely too small for ingame, the head on the back hits the spot. 2) The tail seems a bit too fat Nitpicking: Any reason why the bracers are different? Since the silhouette is quite similar it's almost impossible to actually see that they _are_ different at a…
It has to do with material ID's. assign matching material ID's to both the high and low poly models and then go into the projection options window found in your render to texture dialogue box and check off "Hit Only Matching Material ID". The part of your highpoly that is assigned a material ID of 2 will only bake to the…
Totally depends on the project and what you're designing. Is it a prop or a full environment or a character? Some things are super quick like half a day or less. Other things can take forever. Designing the main character for Ryse took around 10 months on and off with myself and 2 other concept artists all contributing…

How did you blend the 2 textures, the grey and the white? It looks very blurry and rather meh - If you look at real sharks, the change is a lot more sudden and blotchy, and not as soft. If you've got them as 2 layers, with 1 layermask in Photoshop, you can quite fast fix it by applying a filter to the layermask I think.…
That's cool man but just to be clear, the rules state; "Mission: Create one cycle (a uniquely creative run or walk cycle) animation and one unique attack" That said, go at it! we all got enough time for more than just 2 short animations. But in the end, it's those 2 that are required EDIT: I just noticed the "beside the…
Pretty good. Part I is an intro to how Maya works behind the scenes. I used this together with Chad Vernon's page - I found they complement each other. Part 2 seems to have some handy math tutorials, but if you're already familiar with vectors, rotations, etc. then you could skip this. I haven't really read much of part 2…
As somebody who has a BA Hons, I'll tell you now - it makes no difference. It doesn't hurt to aim high and do your best, but portfolio will always mean more in this industry than somebody who can write a brilliant dissertation. I knew amazing artists who work in the industry and got 2:2's just because they weren't strong…
Well I don't think i'll be finishing it this month! To be fair I started 2 and a 1/2 weeks late and only get to work on it during my lunch breaks :P I have recently taken it into zbrush to add some dents, cloth work, duck tape details and scratches to it :) still lots to do! Here is where I am so far in Maya:
But that's the point; the new Metro layout is worse at than the Windows 7 Mode. If Windows (or any other desktop OS) is there for 2 purposes 1: launch programs that use their own, dedicated, finely honed UI, and 2: move and manage files then shouldn't progress be about bettering the way those things are done? The…
