Slap all your textures into a multi-sub object and then make sure the mesh has the proper material ID's applied to match the multi-sub object ID that references the texture that is on that section of the mesh. Rick is right, many Menu interfaces have a load time. Fry Cry had a 3D beach scene fly-by in the background of its menu. That stuff takes time to load. Here's another technique for making rope/cable in max. The spline in the front viewport (top of image) is the cross section spline that's lofted along the spline visible on the left. It's then got a twist value of about 35000 to make it twist around the spline.
