About baking normal maps using the Bevel Shader in Blender... TL;DR: Is there a way to bake to the lowpoly the details from a highpoly mesh using the Bevel Shader, PLUS the effects of modified normals? Testing my gun bakes, I noticed the following piece was coming out with a gradient: This is in Marmoset, using a 4k PNG…
Some questions. I'm coming from Modo, and thinking about doing some of the modeling tasks in Blender in the future (love the Hardops/ Boxcutter tools). I'm not sure if Blender really can compete with Modos modeling tools. Maybe you can tell me if Blender can: - deform polygons with a falloff. Not talking about sculpting -…
"am I wrong in saying that once you activate the mechanism in the GIF you shared, you cannot rotate the camera view around until you either confirm or un-do the action?" Well ... I'd say that this is hardly relevant, because such operations all have a post-confirmation popup (f6) that lets you edit the parameters after the…
Never use the edge split modifier just to sharpen edges these days. Instead, go to the vertex attributes tab in the properties editor (it's the one with the triangle on it) and enable Auto Smooth and set the angle to 180 degrees so only edges you mark as sharp will be sharpened. This method doesn't tear apart your mesh and…
Not trying to belittle anyones work here, but i try out blender from time to time to see how it advances, and my gawd there are a ton of cases where it isn't consistent with it's self. Also a lot of the bmesh tools still dont work as expected. i was testing with the graphic all build of the latest trunk at the time. first…
Hi! I have found several techniques to automate game art, that I wanted to share. :) I start with the most time consuming thing that hard surface stylized artists have to do in ZBrush: create chipped edges and cracks. Then baking and compositing the maps for each props. I have found this procedurally generated chipped…
Hi, thank you for the feedback. We plan to create Cycles/EEVEE material using the Principled BSDF, we will do that this week. About the iterative modeling this could be useful because of dyntopo that destroys the UVs but the shape will be modified to much to allow the cage and the generated textures to bake a good texture.…
@Udjani Ahhh I finally see what you mean. It's tricky. I need to set the 3d Cursor to geomtery, set the transform orientation to Cursor, and finally set the 3d cursor position to Median point/bounding box center. Seems like creating a custom pivot is faster and simpler, but it's good to know there's this other method.…
@f1r3w4rr10r @birb i have installed both versions, 2.83, and 2.90. I downloaded the 2.90 alpha version to check out the new modifiers because i was said to do it. I complained about the poor performance of 2.83, and like i said, 2.90 has a similar performance as Blender 2.78 (opensubdiv was used in that version). Just…
@MrNinjutsu Like you, I've only been using Blender to model in casually and am a Max user. I'm currently doing my first big(in Blender) AAA gun asset(100K) and have avoided Blender's unwrap tools like the plague..........until now. :) The UV sync thing was completely alien to my brain and I just couldn't see the logic of…
