there is some console command also, but that might just be the number of tris in view at the moment, which changes when you look around.

No, I convert the model to a poly and the bones don't deform it any more. I am trying to export a view model reference.

For maya, just harden the uv seams edges to get a real view of how things will look, and adjust the normal map accordingly
