"hardsurface sci-fi " Go with Max. Maya 2016 is a huge improvement on previous versions, but honestly after a LOT of customization and scripting and messing about it is still missing some powerful tools/workflows that are being used in Max/Modo to create this kind of work. I can only recommend Maya if you are interested in…
Yep... In my time freelancing i've seen just about every bind pose i can imagine. There was a game i helped with, where the characters were only ever running and carrying guns, the arms required such a small range of motion that they wanted the character modeled with the elbows bent 90 degrees, and the fingers almost…
I agree with ysalex n the whole. I tend to try and vet the people I work for and it works most of the time. More often than not I don't have a contract, just an agreement on what I will be working on. I always hand over work when they need it , can't see the value in withholding stuff if they need to test it in game etc.…

Thanks for your advices Predator,…
I know Orion and Prassel are a highly controversial topic here, folks - so I'd like to say this before the thread gets dogpiled: In the time that I worked for David, while he is stubborn and a hard-charger, he was a great guy to work for. He treated me like a human being instead of a disposable commodity and paid me what…
Nope! Yep! If you're not enjoying the college/school experience, then ditch it - pronto!...otherwise an F'ing pointless exercise that'll most likely yield zero results going forward, plus also screwing around with your self esteem besides other related mental health issues... Anyways most of the dudes I hang with are…
Some good articles and resources here http://wiki.polycount.com/wiki/Freelance#Freelance_Rates I would advise you to decide on two rates, so you can present them as options. A day rate, and a piece rate. A big part of providing fee estimates to employers is knowing how much time it takes you to make things. To that end, it…
