Your font looks bigger. Maybe change it to the same as your other max? I don't get this in my max 2010 or 2011. :( -

I think the "add selection to current layer" is available if you right click the layer. I've only used 2015 briefly before going back to 2014... Where the last version of outliner worked. -

I would rather work focus on props and environment then. Eat3D Max 101 uses 2009/2010, would it still be useful for me using 2012? -

Like an XYShrinkWrap? I had a script for that which worked in 2012, but not for 2015 unfortunately. Give it a look around the web if you can find one that's up to date. -

What kind of hardware? Updated video drivers? Why 2010? That was probably one of the buggiest releases there have been in max history. I would jump to 2012 or go back to 2009.
