Cageless baking really is not such a crazy thing; we were doing it at Splash Damage; ask Ben or Vincent, the results we got on weapons were definitely on par with what they did before for Brink, and it saved us time.
I feel that you have the albedo of your metals far to bright. Just looking at quick references of this weapon and I see that it most is the typical dark gun metal, which have near black albedo values.

weapons coming along now. Here's a WIP on the sword to give an idea, no spec yet so that's quite random. 250 tris. The other stuff should be finished today so rig and update well on track :) ~P~
I agree with most of it, however the model he is showing is without arms, shoulders and weapons, since they are customizable in the game, so when you see it in the alpha, it's easy to spot which direction is what. :) Great job on the mech!
The 'Killroy' insignia was etched by Allied soldiers during WW2, mostly throughout the European theatre indicating to other units the areas that they have traveled. It really has no place being on this weapon and would probably look better without it.

If we are going for Props I would like those weapons and shields that arrixle has done (taken from the 2D Concept Bank): His environment concept is very cool too, but I would prefer the Props.
