modeling is pretty good. texturing is iffy. your texture is way too noisy and it seems very uniform all over. for example, if you put a flat shader on it (no highlights or shadows), all the forms would almost get lost in each other because you wouldn't be able to tell them apart from by the textures. thats what i would… -

The xNormal's 3D viewer uses true per-pixel Phong shading if you use a normal map, not Goreaud shading really. With DX9 is possible that your SM2.0 graphics card could expose partial FP precision, but with DX10 full 32bits FP precision is required for a WQHL driver. Ok, as a test I generated a plane in max, exported to zbrush and made it all bumpy. Used the melody to create the normal map and renamed it to floor_local.tga. made a diffuse, floor_d.tga, and dumped both files into the directory that the md5 viewer accesses according to the scene.txt. went into max and exported the plane… -

Good! Thanks, you guys pretty much confirmed what I hoped you would. The tech im working with is real classy, so normals and AO's are seamless from the bake, as long as the setup is done right (offset mirrored pieces, etc.) Wasn't sure if there was some hidden benefit to doing it the old fashioned way, but it doesn't seem… -

Typically a detail map is a smaller texture (say 256x256) that tiles hard across the surface of your model with a high texel density. They are used in next gen-shaders togheter with a bigger size diffuse or color map for variation. u blend the two textures togheter in the shader (say multiply the diffuse on the detail)… -

Eye specular highlights need to be relatively high resolution environment maps with large shaped white spots near the center to depict the light sources that are reflecting on the eye. Is the first post supposed to be the lowpoly? If so, you need to balance your poly distribution a bit better. Right now you have 10 sided cylinders for the lights, and it looks like you based the wired on 10-sided cylinders as well. This makes no sense because the lights are much much bigger than the wires.
