I found that the Unigine built-in bakers are also really, really solid if you know how to tweak them (probably the best bakers around that run on Linux) but they aren't exactly straightforward to acquire and they also bake fewer types of maps than Xnormal (just the bare minimum normals, AO, vertex color and object ID.) It…
As a side note, here is a little clip showing how the 3D cursor can be used as a navigation tool : [ame]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=faWhnOL6mtQ[/ame] The idea is to place the cursor where one wants the center of interest of the camera to be, and then focus the camera on the cursor. This is very useful to me, because…
Hi. This might have been asked before, but I couldn't find anything. I'm currently a modo user and I'm looking to switch. A few questions: - How's the import/export of OBJs and/or FBXs in blender? I have to use Max at work and need to be able to move objects back and forth with material id's and UV's intact. - Is there a…
So many cool ways of doing this! I love this thread. Thank you for the tips and gifs everyone! @FrankPolygon I had been told about typing values during transform ops but it only just clicked now. This is so much better and typing 45 is so easy! About doing the math though... This does nothing for me: As soon as I hit /,…
I downloaded Blender 2.8 yesterday and was looking into adding my own scripts to custom keyboard hotkeys, but there are gaps in my understanding that the Blender documentation isn't explaining well enough to a dumbass like me. For starters, all the scripts I've been finding that should be printing stuff somewhere aren't…
I need help with the curve deformer in Blender, never used it before. I'd like to re-create the method used here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I7-z1bi_Epc (starting at ~5:00) The problem is that I don't know how to use the second curve deformer, or what settings to use. When I activate the second curve deformer, Blender…
Yea :) I meant more that I tend to place it on verts, at the origin or in the centre of an object via the snap menu in edit mode. Come to think of it, I might as well assign left mouse to something different in edit mode :P They decided to remove psd support in 2.58 due to issues with Quicktime being included in Blender…
I'm slightly reluctant re-learning Blender 2.8's changed shortcuts and getting used to them, so I'm not switching from 2.79b straight away. Maybe after few months of the official release. It's just that I'm so fast with the "old" Blender, haha. I also have to get two of my projects done first in 2.79b before switching to…
@pior I'm enjoying any chance I get to have a mess about in Blender, but the one thing that's really putting me off is the smoothing groups workflow. In object mode you have smooth shading for the entire mesh and an Autosmooth checkbox. And then there are 3 options to shade faces/edges/verts in Edit mode. Then you have a…
Yes, you'll need to turn "Auto Smooth" on and set the angle to 180 degrees, so that it doesn't set any other edges other than your custom sharp edges. It's in the "Object Data" tab. EDIT: Setting meshes smooth or flat in edit mode without sharp edges is confusing, so it's best to smooth everything every time, and set…
