I prefer the way outlined by Jeramy Cooke, though I usually like to model out my branches and leaves rather than use PaintFX that way you can bake a normal and AO map as well. Here is an attempt to recreate the tutorial by Jeramy Cooke, I hope he doesn't mind. I don't take any credit for this info. By Jeramy Cooke: I…
Unity's Content Team is looking for an on-site 3D Generalist Artist to help us create stunning game projects, samples, and feature demonstrations which form a pivotal cornerstone in teaching, promoting and developing the Unity engine. I'm sure this can be easily answered but I'm kind of new into the sculpting for low poly world. I use Max and Mudbox in my workflow. Now I have been able to get the low poly out of Max into Mudbox, sculpt the detail, grab the normal and re-apply it on the low poly into Max. Now the thing I need to get straight is that when…
Yeah, it's up to personal preference. Both methods are valid. Personally, I like to create the meshes first, since that allows me to create matching highpolies and bake it all down.
Of interest to most who will read this thread, I wrote an extensive tutorial that covers this topic and many other common baking issues. It's geared towards baking in Toolbag, but most of the Basics and Best Results sections apply universally. Check it out on the Marmoset site:…

Here's some links that I find quite useful. --------------------------------PBR----------------------------------------- Allegorithmic’s PBR Guide Part 1-2 — a good place to start reading on PBR, has almost everything you need…
I also echo Justin's points, and you need to be clear about what they are looking for. A lot of schools take the "graphic design" courses they've offered for years, rearrange a few bits and call it "game design". Their buckshot approach is about as helpful at landing a job in both courses... With these schools you could…
And jogshy, your program is awesome. My probles probably lie here in the user-end, not in the app itself. Well, I tried your suggestions and unchecking the back face lighting helped a bit but it was still full of holes. You can find pics of my cage, low and high poly set-up here: Clicky! I know that my low poly base mesh…
