I'm talking specifically about times you do or otherwise I wouldn't have this issue. Mostly it's simple stuff like related to damage as opposed to anything really intricate.
Not that I know of, but slightly related; You can map a set of brushes to a shortcut key, if they're in the adobe/photoshop/presets/brushes folder (and have been in there since ps started)
towards the end of the game I started saving ontop of old saves, and the game crashed less.. somehow the problem seemed to be related to creating new save slots. who knows..
Sort of related to this thread: Does anyone have a decent workflow for getting models with thier normals set up in max(To use RTT) and then import into maya with those normals intact?
