CS2 is limited with 32 bits tools, so it's a bit outdated for photographers, which i believe, are the base of adobe users. Anyway, it's still great for texturing and illustration.
I also forgot to mention this earlier: that is only the diffuse. Here is the spec gloss (added to the alpha channel of the spec map in a 32-bit TGA format) normal
don't worry, it was something to do with the 32 bit, ive sucked it up and re-imported the landscape as a 509x509 and it now bakes in 64 bit and looks much better. :)
I will try other sizes and formats, but the ones I use now are .tga (32 bit, uncompressed) and quite huge 4096x4096. No new plugins or such installed to Max.
Don't know if too late for this but the Source Wiki says that the prall importer for maya only works with 32 bit versions :shttps://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Maya#Plugins
You import a 32 bit image, or an image to act as a way to control transparencies and apply it to the mesh. In the materials you have an option to tag it as a material that uses transparencies.
My 3ds max is snapping by itself when I try to move in the viewport, moving by 350 units each time... snapping is off and my grid size is set to 32 only.
