I personally like to do testing in UDK after almost every step you have there. It is really quick to just throw it into UDK and check for errors IMO. Hope that helps.
@DavidCruz thanks for the paintover and tips, already tried that color on the sides and it didnt work well So i've did another step of polishing and updated sketchfab with rough animation sketch
oh nice, been keeping an eye on this piece. looking really good. you going to roughen up that step some? Like black rubber from shoes have been on it...

Starting from bottom up shows the steps I did. Start with NURBS cylinder, project circle on cylinder, trim, convert to poly, extrude edges and Proxy Subdiv (smooth)
