My starting pay as a Jr. Artist was 14K a year. Of course this was back in 1993 and I was 18. The average is pretty well represented in the Game Developer salary survey that fmnoor posted. -

These days all games use overbrighting, you can expect your skin to be about twice as bright as it is on the texture on average. I prefer to use levels with 144 as the output scaling to get the skin down to a decent brightness. -

I'm not saying you shouldn't use the stylized ref you have, but car nuts will crit you to death about… -

Small update - a players boat. Will be very small on the screen so I went just for 64x64 texture. The tris count is 143.
