I'm talking about creating a library of thumbnail parts similar to a greeble/nuts & bolts library, a collection of random pieces from many sources. A veritable box 'o parts, if you will. Some ideas are derived from other artists' ideas. Is this not done? I'm not advocating this: Anyway, thanks for the insight. -

Yeah we have all the gnomon workshop dvds in addition to subscriptions to most of the online game and film art tutorials. Its a pretty good program. Just just trying to figure out how to balance in some traditional art talk as it gives context to the commercial work their training for. Thanks again for the input. -

If so, I am using two cylindrical meshes with masked out ends to hide the edges. Then panning a smoke texture and stars down them. Then I erode the texture alphas through the shader to expose more negative space if wanted. Hope this helps! -

Ive seen it rigged both ways. Zac's way and Teejays. Teejays is how I was talking about though. I think its the more common way because I think its easier to set up for autoriggers. Thanks for illustrating my point though, guys. I was gonna draw it at lunch :) -

Thanks, guys. I was just talking to a guy here at work, and he sent me a script that automates ao baking, so I'm going to see if I can rework to make it run from command line. I'm more of a copy and paste guy when it comes to scripting, so this could be interesting. :) -

Thanks for the crits Ryan. Can you point out what zig zag lines you are talking about? The indents in the actual handle guard are meant to be zig zag. The distance is also creating that pixelated look too. It looks fine up close. The blade is battleworn, it is not meant to be perfectly smooth and clean. For example, -

Ahh, plenty of posts I had missed :) Thanks guys! Things are running smoother now, with bank account sorted and a place to live (although no Internet access yet). The job is great with plenty to do.
