Adjusting DPI without changing resolution will not have any effect on jagged text. DPI stands for dots per inches, which as mentioned above is only relevant when doing print work. A new $120 I3 is like 2-3x faster than the fastest AMD x2 processor, a motherboard and 4gb/8gb ram could be as cheap as an additional $100-120.
