Here is the initial throne concept. We went with a throne that would be controlled by a droid-like drone atop the seat as we wanted to focus on machines keeping the room alive. Their are cables that come from the drone to power the chair. Cables also run from the Throne to other machines. As usual appreciate any feedback. -

Thanks Nosslak. Yeah I probably should block it out and save my self the time doing that later. I am going for a realism style. Unfortunately I don't have a computer powerful enough to run mudbox or zbrush, so for now all I can do is use maya and photoshop. -

Yep, if anything Mari has a more powerful adjustment and masking system than even Photoshop, Mari supports solid color layers and has very advanced Masking that enables you to use a full stack of layers as a mask. The easiest way to imagine this is your masks in PS having their own layer system. -

Why forget about Modo? I have student license for Maya and have always loved it (of course, I never truly learned Maya completely) but currently I am using a trial of Modo and I find it very powerful and cool but I find organization of tools is a bit poor for my taste. -

forget MEL - look at Python. Python is extremely powerful in Maya and you can do a lot with it, depending on your pipeline / task. If you want to go into that direction you can investigate script based scene assembly systems, how scripts can help with modular environment workflows or with baking maps and exporting. -
