WTF, 30 bucks for 24 textures that are 512 pixels, look like Photos which have been 'filtered' or traced upon, and Normal Maps that look like default CB settings. No Specular or Gloss either, especially for planks which have different values for wood and bolts. You might as well giddy-up a little extra cash and buy nDo2,… -

If you try and scale down a layer or a document, that hasn't been flattened, using the "Bicubic sharper" -algorithm, then you WILL get alpha values on the border pixels (1px border all around). The same thing applies when you select "Bicubic: automatic" and scale something down. This is something you need to keep in mind… -

Depends completely on the game and art lead's direction. Most AAA stuff will use a workflow similar to the one you described, which is to create the high resolution asset then bake down to the game-ready version. From there software like nDo can be used to edit in finer Normal details that would lose too much resolution… -

using goz helped a bit, now it seems that some of the the faces are displaying correctly, but other still seem pixelated or detached. optimize points order sounds promising but it requires the model to have no subdivisions. i tried to just delete the lower sub divs and then optimize the points order but my computer freezes… -

Yes and no. It does not properly rotate the normal maps if the new UV layout has been rotated differently than the originals. You'll also get resampling, meaning that new pixels are created, which changes the existing normals. They'll need to be renormalized.
