Now I modeled a bit of the inside of the oven. Had a lot of practice today regarding different edge flows. However I still don't feel comfortable... What do you think about the geometry ?
I think your spec is a little too grainy compared to the last reference shot and I think your original lighting was closer as well. Looking forward to more progress, this is a great scene to practice materials on.
Oh no I'm not trying to do the exact Zim. His antennas are black and thinner, this is just a practice for zim-like alien style. Btw, do you mean the oversaturated orange color or the thing behind the counter ?
Although it's too bad that there won't be any Dom War this year, this will give me a chance to practice for next year. Also, I am totally on-board for a polycount-specific contest to take its place. (for now)
I'm mainly an artist, but I was able to pick up Unityscript and become proficient after a month or two of just working with it. Not with little practice exorcises or anything, but with actual application; Mostly just writing game mechanics and such.
I've been doing some retopo and practicing with Substance Painter and Marmoset. So heres an update after a long time taking a break. Helm and hair are not done yet, and textures still needs a lot of work.
Not really. Inefficient UV mapping is bad for several reasons. This is coming up on 8 years old (8!) but still very valid. https://polycount.com/discussion/85675/uv-unwrapping-best-practice-factors-priorities
another popular method is just recreating models from reference images (study their topology) like taking them as a benchmark and then see from a personal and practical perspective what looks good enough and works with the engine.
I think I may have to to be honest. A tool for both seems like a good plan and would give me more practice with Mel script Thanks for sharing man with your Max friends man :)
Defining specific artistic styles is just a matter of pattern recognition. The only way to develop skill in this is through practice. A natural proficiency at it is also desireable. Identify common traits and recurring visual motifs. Observation is everything.
