Not as far as i know. They automatically save in the same directory as your main file. One work around is to use something like synctoy to copy the files over to another directory :)
Yeah... why did they develop it this way? Surely it makes no sense and is completely counter-productive... Even 3D Max saves the settings of an object until you collapse it into an editable state...
As far as I know animations and armatures aren't supported yet. That aside I noticed a time saving of 50%, at least for high poly meshes. Plus files sizes are significantly smaller of course.
Looks like the "smooth" fucntion of the loop cut tool : Oddly it doens't save the smooth preset like the other tools but I guess with some python maagic we can make it smarter !

Press D immediately after X is the closest thing I can think of (chaining hotkeys) * Selecting a component and then control-clicking is Blender's weird equivalent of Max's shift extrude. * Target-welding is…

Well that's certainly starting to look like something that could be scripted pretty easily. Now, if for whatever reason you do need to preserve vertex order, this addon has saved me more times than I can count.
When using profile 1 on curved surfaces, I think the pinching comes from the edge being "too flat" and not following the curvature. The topo was very simple, didn't actually save that thing, here another one.
Using Texture Tools for Blender : you can in the UV Editing workpace/viewport click the Checker Map creation button and instantly switch into Texture Painting workspace/vieport and paint onto your object.. Maybe using one additional click for choosing the size.. (and maybe one for new material.. 😅) (Dont' forget to save…
