That is what I mean. People try to integrate it into their pipeline, but it's too difficult to pick-up and use. Below is a video I made just a couple weeks ago texture painting in Blender as just a demo testing Psy-Fi's GSoC project (I posted it in the low-poly thread so you may have seen it). Many long time Blender users…
PolyHertz The 'Summer of code' project for sculpting, painting, multires, and 7 other projects just started, I'm mentoring the coder doing the sculpting work. I've established a sculpt feedback team at the blenderartists.org forum http://blenderartists.org/forum/showthread.php?t=186339 and a work list for our features we…
Yeah Blender suffers from the 'millions of crappy modelling tutorials, feck all other useful technique tutorials' problem that so much software suffers from. 3D coats painting does indeed look very sexy, a wise investment for the painting alone. (this is why we need Andy to make a 15hour Eat 3D DVD covering everything ;) )
You can't paint vertex alpha but you can paint a vertex group and use that as an alpha. It's a known limitation and I hope they get rid of it but it shouldn't keep you from doing anything especially if you're using any render system that makes use of nodes where you can get any vertex group weight you want.
Use this to show a list of vertex groups from your mesh and pick one to make it active. Useful if you like weight painting on fullscreen area mode (Ctrl + Up). Download: https://gum.com/popup_vertex_group_list (0+) Install the PY file and access from View3D (Weight Paint) > Weights > Popup Vertex Group List or create a…
Psy-Fi: Just checked out the latest built, great work fixing the artifacts issues :) However, there are seams when painting on overlapping UVs (tried changing the Bleed amount but didn't solve it), and some sort of stroke occlusion issue when using quickedit. Here's an example file (purple=3D paint, red=quickedit):…
