This is model from a car, its not subd but it has so many polygons, how do you model this? Im thinking one way could be making it subd and then optimize it (delete edge loops).
@aregvan For holes in cylinders the rule is quite simple. The bigger the hole, the less polygons you need. For smaller details, you just need more geometry, that's all. And a with a cylinder of 16 sides, bigger hole:
having some difficulties with this shape: it's not just a simple ended piece, it curves to fit the bottom of the slide, and the rail system almost tapers...cant seem to get a right polygon flow here. and here's the ref:
Hope it's "clear". Just delete the inside loop(the polygons marked with red) and bridge as marked with the blue lines. That should give you the ceiling you want. It it's not clear yet I'll just do it in 3D ^^.

@Snakedoctor: You could use your approach, just make a small cylinder, go into polygon mode , select extrude along path(pick helix), set iterations to a reasonable amount and you are ready to go.
@ shinigami For a vehicle I would use the good, old edge extrusion method. Not box modeling. That's just me tho. Anyway, your polygon density is too low near the windows, and too high elsewhere.
