It's just a line in the VMT which makes the things double sided "$nocull 1". It's on for some heroes and off for others. When you submit an item it gets merged into the hero's VMT. I know Vengeful Spirit's was on that layer, for example, but Enchantress' was not (Not even sure she had one at all). But Wraith King's bloom came from the Detail Mask map (Mask 1, Red Channel).
