And the employee's had lots of options not just "get the fuck out" Aswell, it wasn't clear that HR was helping the floaters find new work. yeah on our end, for realistic clothing its usually either scan based. Or marvelous, with a pass of zbrush on top for the detailling, memoryfolds and such. No point in faking the screws and such. if your baking from high it takes a few seconds to drop in a screw and place it. Once you've done it you get a convincing normal map. better AO details, and can bake a coloured mask which makes texturing them very easy. Normal bake trouble (monster truck tire)
I get some odd artifacting and shading on my normal map bake and I am at a dead end figuring why. The highpoly is fairly aligned to the lowpoly as far I can tell + the two floaters (text+wheel nuts) are all covered by the projection cage. If only 3d coat could do so by composing decals/floaters/layers , could move /scale/ rotate them around and blend together by depth info being kind of "smart" object not loosing resolution after each scale or be just vector objects/shapes with bitmap fill. If you're baking you'll benefit from welding elements together in the low poly. You also get better lightmaps with continuous meshes. I think every decent / experienced artist here has it's own library of reusable / generic meshes like floaters, and it's wise to spend a few time improving it, I like to call it "Gribble Library". You'd need something like cylindrical meshes, bolts, grates, vents, pre-made pipes, etc. If I would pay for it? Mm... probably…
