You are doing nicely so far, also do not be afraid to add geometry, because at the moment it looks too low poly. Of course, add geo where it needs to be but you get the point. No! either hi/lo or visa versa, whatever you're comfortable with. As for the model, look's as though it'll be a headscratcher even for someone with slightly more subd experience so another suggestion would be to use floaters, instead of generating contiguous geometry on the face of that fone. edit. and plenty of examples… -

Yep, you need more supporting geometry on the edges in order for the tangents to align with those straight floater details, OR, you need to use different smoothing groups on those surfaces, in order to break the tangent and have it align with the flat face.
