Well yeah and no matter what Maya will still refuse to let you edit the base shape properly without making a mess of the final result . Even on a simple extrude it fails... If I understand correctly the reason behind this not being flexible in Maya is because the app only edits vertices tables really. There is no notion of…
Thanks for the comments man. Generally I model in as many smaller chunks as is efficient, often times it just makes sense to have a large amount of small pieces, as complex objects tend to be built up from multiple pieces anyway. So defintely do not spend much time trying to model things as one large chunk. I do have to…
Hey guys, I started my first vehicle: The M47 Patton. I try to build up the whole model by following the Dozer tutorial from EAT3D. But my tank does have a turret and a dozer does not. And I'm having a lot of a problems getting the shape right. In fact, I don't even know how to start. I already tried with a cyllinder, a…
No need for that tbh. Now you've picked let's say 40 segments. so the 40 segments means. 1. You have 40 lines (edges) going around in a curve. 2. i want you inbetween one of those edges, cut in /add another Segment, doing so, you already have "support loops" from your original cylinder. Following along? 3. Check the…
Instructions unclear, fingers stuck in toaster ... just joking :) thanks, I definitely noticed a difference when I made them planar by axis. I left out the last row to keep the top part intact. just a quick test ( in reality I only need to make one edge planar due to the symmetry modifier etc.). It was pretty cool to…
Some great info here, guys. I'm trying to round out the corners of this model. I removed some of the supporting edges, and this is what I've got so far: It's not looking too bad, but the highlighted edge is giving me some artifacting. If I remove the edge, that inward extrusion retains it's edge, but I'm getting some…
Hi, As you can see, recently I ve been practicing modeling with the Eat3d - Dozer tutorial, which is a really great tutorial and the model is almost finished. My problem is the following: I want to texture it, but without creating a game asset, just create a scene for it and render it with vray,so I want to unwrap (of…
so I went ahead and put this together I hope this helps started from 16 sided cylinder that I sliced one segment above the hemisphere of the cylinder from there laid in the base areas and then placed in support edges and used a template shapes in the background to move edges to keep the necessary curvature hope this helps…
Nice! I agree, can be challenging sourcing info or indeed how/what too query when a particular issue crops up in the first place?! So just a teeny additional expansion upon Frank's typically detailed advice which in turn I'd personally recommend to also search term vehicle games - production - visualization artist /…
There are no rules. As long as the object looks correct when it's subdivided then move on. Sometimes people get told to avoid triangles when they're new to SubD modelling because triangles don't subdivide as neatly as Quads. Additionally, when you're just starting out you're unlikely to be trying to model some crazy shape…
