I wouldn't look at it as a linear process of tutorials -> personal projects -> portfolio, but rather bounce back and forth. If you do a modeling tutorial, follow that up with your own model. Just keep the scope and complexity at a similar level. When you feel OK with the tools, then just jump in, problem solve, research… -

didn't even know it could be done realtime / in-engine .. i assume the solution i posted above bakes the animation to the new rig, which is then exported and treated like any other animation by the engine? enlighten me, it's an interesting problem i couldn't really solve while working on a hl2 mod with a gazillion… -

That's pretty much how I'm working now. It gets pretty fiddly though. I think I've got roughly 30 reference objects in the scene I'm working on now. I'll definitely take a closer look at Modo. I think coupled with Meshfusion, that might go a long way to solving a lot of the issues I'm working with here. -

Yeah make sure sRGB is ticked for the albedo slot. If you accidentally load your albedo map in your normal map slot for instance that will take it as linear space, which will make it appear brighter. Make sure that sRGB is ticked on in that case. If that doesn't solve it, its most likely an issue if Photoshop with your… -

It is an issue in offline rendering as well that is only slowly starting to get solved there. Bascially the shape of your highlights at distance will always be wrong compared to the highlight at close ups due to the filtering. One approach is to use lean mapping to encode the normal direction… -

Well what you answered wasn't what I needed but thanks for your reply. I solved the problem myself, while I was uploading screen to show you I noticed "properties" on the bar. From being curious I've checked it and seen smooth and hard modifer. The hard modifer converted my smoothed object into a boxy object again. -

for that issue look at the polycount wiki, or the 3dmotive tutorial on foliage for UDK for changing the normals of your alpha planes... it should solve the shading seam on the grass. The intersection with the other mesh wasn't even noticeable if you didn't point it out imho :D anyway looking good so far, but a bit early… -
