what you want to do is select the entire object, the root joint, THEN hit smooth bind. then to adjust the influence of each vertex you'l go to edit smooth skin -> paint skin weights tool. from here you can either paint the influence, or select the vertices using the "select" mode -

Well, as an animator, it's very handy when you need to create an animation that has several character's interacting. Like a real time cinematic. Otherwise you'd need to rename every rig before you export an animation. Well, in Maya you just rename the root, but I still appreciate the "feature". -

It's nice to see that you are doing thumbnails. I am slightly confused by what's going on in the image with the person next to the spider web. Are those hands or spider legs? You might want to define the shape's base a little better. I like your concept of the gorilla with tree branches and roots as limbs. -

i'm not digging the tree for a couple reasons...1) the roots should have definition further up in the trunk and 2) the area where the tree is broken off should be more angled overall and more rigid on the edges...and there should be more groves in the bark...the whole tree is too smooth...check your concept -

Is the floor going to stay white, beneath the grass? That's the main thing that's sticking out to me at this point, it makes the grass feel very disjointed, and it's very 1-color. If it's, say, Tatami, it would be quite dark and dirty if it were old enough for grass to have seeded it and taken root. Besides that, it's… -

The root problem is likely that the low poly mesh normals are very extreme in this area. Using hard edges (and splitting UVs where you have hard edges) or leveling some of these edges may help. Try changing the tangent space to Mikkt. The Marmoset tangent space doesn't handle this sort of thing as well. -

Scanned some rocks yesterday and put together a small scene with them. The top of the rock still needs cleanup and I need to create a proper tree with some roots growing down but other than that it is slowly coming along. Also another pose test of the character (still have to chreate final renders!) -

I really like the original savage and this is really cool, those guys have been doing alot of very cool stuff, like the cash for art program and now this, looks like these guys are trying to break out of the chains of the ordinary modern gamedeveloper, i'm preordering this from their site, definitely rooting for these guys.
