Thanks for your responses. I have to say, I'm intimidated by the price tags on the software you guys mentioned. I currently have Blender on my computer. Are Maya and Modo a lot better for graphic design, or is Blender comparable in ways of power and interface?
That review is genius. I take my fancy hat off to the guy who wrote it. "a shooting game in which players use a variety of guns and magical powers to fight two ideological factions warring over a dream city in the sky called Columbia"
Max's PolyDraw tools are actually pretty good, if you are a Max user get to know the 'Step Build', 'Extend' and 'Optimize' modes in polydraw, very powerful tools, along with a symmetry modifier(if the model is symmetrical), you can do a very fast retopo.
Kraftwerk has a very good point - people should try it out, and if it's powerful enough to do what they want it to do, go and talk to the developers - I'm sure they'd be happy to hear from good modellers with suggestions of how to improve the program for usage.
iPhone 4 uses the PowerVR chipset IIRC, which is a decent amount of rendering power. But whether it does detail mapping simply depends on which game engine you're using. If it supports custom shaders, then you can probably make your own.
How ! I never noticed that. Pretty handy. thanks :) edit: But is that relay light enough for less powerful platforms (I'm thinking about DS and co) I mean , you have to load at lest 2 textures instead of 1 ! just wondering.
I never did understand why the people who make "blitzy" cases for PC's suck so much at what they do. I'd buy an apple if the price/power ratio wasn't so terrible (and the fact that none of my programs would run...)
Try going to Control panel, Plug and play (if you are using windows vista, not sure for windows 7) Balance out your power savings also. If the problem still remains contact the store support you bought the computer from. Good luck.

Said more powerful, not more cost efficient. Intel will be releasing a new architecture (Sandy-bridge) on Jan9 though which AMD has nothing to compete with until they release Bulldozer. Once sandy-bridge comes out their current lineup will drop in price.
