Yeah that's what I've been using as my workaround. Unfortunately that technique requires getting a smooth gradient on my mask, which can be impossible/impractical for models without low subD levels. I can't believe that zbrush is actually incapable of performing one of the most basic modeling functions. Does this bother… -

I've been having a lot of luck going between Blender and ZBrush. Marking UV seams and the default unwrap function in Blender and then importing the model into ZBrush and using UVW master with the "use existing UV seams" selected. Re: Is it possible to use planes with alpha to bake on to other planes?
I'd love to have this sort of functionality in a baker. Would be perfect to e.g. bake hair planes from a hairstyle down onto a head texture to conceal the scalp. Right now it's all manual labor i the 3d painter for me. Somebody should probably get the Marmoset guys onto the case ASAP. Paging @EarthQuake Ahem. -

Most game engines have LOD systems. For the lowest LOD just use a plane that always faces the camera; most engines also have that functionality. Which engine are you using? Also, for a forest of many trees, you'll need to use Alpha Test instead of smooth alpha. See the Transparency Map link for info why. -

if only autodesk actually did implement byron's chamfer.... /rolleyes also, solid chamfer is a pretty useful functionality for subdivs which I believe is not in maya. too bad for whatever reason, bpt's chamfer crashes my maya badly (2009 64b) :( anyway, talking about maya's bevel just makes me angry :) -

I meant to say that the frameLayout was appearing in the attribute editor. Turns out that I didn't have the "m=True" set in the setParent of each frameLayout chain. Now I need to figure it out what other functions python has to read mouse input or update based on mouse. Need to find more tutorials/reference! -

You could download AutoHotkey which will give you a similar functionality as UE4's material editor, where you can hold a button down and click your mouse to create nodes. For example, holding L + left click will create a Levels node. You have to set up all the custom hotkeys yourself, though. -

The concepts are really nice, and even demonstrate the ability to show some originality and creativity within a constrained pre-determined environment/world like the one established in Half Life 2. They also appear to have enough functionality as a concept that they do not appear they'd pose a problem to a modeller. So…
