I see you're trying this out in Toolbag, the simplest solution is to use bake groups. Put the base of the chair in one group, and the pillow in another group. That will solve the intersection errors. Then, turn on "Ignore Groups" to get AO to cast between the two groups. How to do this is explained here:… -
