hey guys. thanks for the quick responses. the character im modelling is an atlantian man, which is the reason for the huge fin protruding from the back of his head..will take all your comments on board and modify accordingly heres the concept art
It's now impossible to create decent chamfers in 3D Studio Max 2015, the tool and it's modifier counterpart is completely buggered. Just thought I'd let you all know in case want to upgrade and you use chamfering a lot (that's everybody).
Another approach that might work is to make your spline a plane with the right width you want it and then apply a shell modifier to it. will give you an even thickness around, but will make it possible to edit as an editable poly. Quite a few ways to do this :)
If you are using 3ds Max it helps to apply a "STL Check modifier" to your collision mesh it checks the mesh for errors like holes, double faces ect... Just make sure to collapse the history stack before skinning or exporting.
The other maps are used by Substance Painter itself. they are needed for SP to correctly predict and distribute scratches, dirt and other modifiers and generators. without them you would get very bad results from basically all of SP features.
Thank you, that helps. So I'm thinking of doing hair next, but the Max hair modifier is like.. insanely laggy. What would you guys suggest? Or should I texture him first? Or should I clothe him?
Hey guys, thanks for the comments! I've got some updates but I'll post 'em later when it's a bit more. Modeling all these curvy parts is tricky though, lots of Bend and FFD in my modifier stacks and still it's hard.
Oh my, this game looks like it will be so much fun! Get to see Darwinism at it's best, haha. Because I'm sure they'll be plenty of creatures you create that pretty much suck at life, and you'll have to modify it to be the best.
fly_soup: same as I use! :) anyone: Know if there are hotkeys for moving up and down the layer list? I can't find any. It seems like up and down arrow keys with a modifier key would be best, but they don't work. Is it scriptable?
