to clear up a few things: -if you have max 2011 with the hotfix or max 2012, you can use the official "qualified" normals fix with any compatible shader. both this and 3point's solutions look identical, but it's a true fix by autodesk rather than a bolt-on to max like 3point's modifier. xoliulshader supports this and lets… -

Because they switched from releasing versions 1-2-3 ect whenever they felt like it, to releasing it on subscription once a year. 3ds Max 2012: Objects disappearing at frame 100
Certain objects in 3ds Max are suddenly disappearing at frame 100. They have simple transform animations, but none of the keyframes are on that frame. There are no visibility tracks, no material animations, no camera clipping (happens in Perspective view too!) Save Selected one of the objects to a new Max file, loaded it… -
