I've helped a guy move to my old company before, put him up at my house, he finally went freelance and earns great wads of money as a programmer - from middle of nowhere country boy to city life coke snorting playboy. He turned on me like a ravenous animal. Not doing that again
True... i spend 99% of my time using photoshop. I only use illustrator when i need some concept art done and its a cartoony repetitive style... and sometimes not even then will i use it. But hey... it's a plus on your resume, and you can do freelance graphic design if you are low on work.
Yeah the point of this is to land some decent job. Then again some interesting freelance might come my way. Anyway, I rendered normal maps and baked in AO. Here is the result. Now its time to texture this sucker. These are realtime from Xnormal, hence the awesome AA on the wireframe. But couldn't be arsed to setup render…
Getting jobs has never been anything but stress and difficulty for me, as carving out a career here requires my constantly swimming upstream. I don't think most full-time freelancers ever stop feeling like they're walking on eggshells, though, as it seems part and parcel of what comes with living on contract.
This is some really good quality work Nick and across a great variety of styles and disciplines. It really sucks to hear about any studio going down - especially at this time of year. If I hear of any freelance gigs to keep you going whilst your searching for something more permanent I'll let you know :)
It just struck me the potential for making custom car mods with all this 3d printing... Could be huge and maybe not too far off. Imagine getting freelance gigs to make someone car looks exactly how they want it to, or your own car :D . Just load up the "default" parts and sculpt additions to it. That'd be sick.

The planned characters in the game that need to be animated are a combination of creature and humanoid characters. Ideally, you should be familiar with action games. We're looking to animate about 2-4 characters…
Hello! I'm a 3D artist who's been working professionally for about six years creating content for Warframe as a freelance artist but would love to start branching out into other stuff. I focus on characters but can also do props. You can check out some of the work I did here! https://www.artstation.com/jonathanlandolt…
Big studios absolutely do use costume designers or other such consultants - for evidence I'm fairly sure there's a documentary/promo video about the lengths they went to on horizon zero dawn. It'll tend to be on a freelance basis since its going to be more of a concept phase task How you'd approach them, I couldn't say…
I hate open plan 'pit' offices, although it's been many years since I was able to work in anything else. I'd like to have my own office, but I doubt I'll get that unless/until I go total freelance or self-employed. It seems like open offices are super common these days.
